DC in the new issue of LA Magazine "IN".
2007-01-01

Daniel is featured in the new issue of the LA Magazine "IN".

"If Cazwell stomps around with his explicit balls hanging out, half-Swedish, half-Spanish newcomer Daniel Cirera sneaks through your window and plops himself down on your couch--then gets all tart-tongued on your ass. I'm not even sure how to describe this guy. He's clearly a sensitive, singer-songwriter type with a totally laid-back, hushed delivery along the lines of Bright Eyes--or Jack Johnson scoring new music for The Breakfast Club? And as you peel back layers on these pretty, melodic, acoustic-based tracks, he'll drop an F-bomb or let you know he masturbates while watching TV. Disc opener "Motherfucker Fake Vegetarian Ex Girlfriend" leaves no pissed diss unturned, yet somehow resonates with a beautiful melody. Or, as you'll hear, he turns the Sex Pistol's riotous "Anarchy in the UK" into a breezy, sunshine-laced ballad. Apparently, all the songs are about one girl, culled from his extensive diary (and what a damn shame--he's a total cutie!). The standout track is "1992", which name-checks all the pop minutiae of the year--from Madonna to TLC to Pearl Jam to "Hammer Time"--as the soundtrack to his coming of age. He closes it out with the self-examination of "All This," about selling himself out to make a hit for the record company. All told, what struck me as so odd about this guy is what ended up hooking me on his songs. After a few spins, you just might be charmed, too."

DC Tour Diary - Seattle, Police rescue, SF, BF, LA and Thanks!
2006-11-20

I'm in LA now.
The tour is over for a couple of weeks and I've started to unpack my stuff in Santa Monica after six months on the road. I'm alive. The sun is out and I'm heading to the beach soon. My mind needs a break and my body needs the sun. It's a nice day for being late November, around 84 F. But before I head out the door let me first recap the last days on the tour and also thank you for making me feel way better then I ever could feel on my own.

Heading west from Detroit.
Seattle was one of those cities that have fascinated me (the grunge is in my blood) for a long time so I was excited to leave the mid-west for a "dream destination". Seattle welcomed me in a very seattle way - rain. Rain. And then some more...rain. It never stopped during my four days there. So I guess my overall impression should be bad, but I was blown a way by this amazing rainy city. Seattle was more then I ever could expect. A heart warming city with relaxed and lovely people. I fell in love. Next to Boston, Seattle got a place in my heart for a long time to come. The venue Studio 7 and the crowd was amazing. And so was the three other supporting acts (John Stark, Pete Voss, Kiliegh) that made the night in Seattle something unforgettable. Special thanks to my two friends in the front row - hope you're headache is gone by now;)

The ride down from Seattle to Portland the next morning should be one of the smoothes trips on the whole tour - but turned out to be one of my worst experiences ever. It was a close call and that day could have been my last. That morning we decided to take a different route to see some nice scenery. The nevigation system in the car led us to drive on a unpaved dirt road over a 1800 feet mountain. Narrow winding roads with the mountain on one side and a 100 feet drop on the other side decorate our 3 hour trip. What me and Jeff never calculate was that it had been raining for 8 days straight in this area which made the road very unstable and dangerous. So as we drove down the dirt path the road a head of us suddenly had disappeared in-front of us as we were approaching it! Trust me - it's a life changing thing to realize that if you've had gone fast you would have been dead...
We also never noticed was that the road we just left behind us also had collapsed down a creek and a 100 feet drop as we passed. It was like a horror movie - we where trapped between two non-existing roads on a 1800 feet mountain top... On top of this I had no reception on my cell phone and Jeff only one bar. We were afraid of moving the car and facing the drop down the creek. After what felt like ages the Pacific Cost Police found our GPS signal and we could be rescued. The car didn't make the rescue attempt so it's either still up there on the mountain or roof down in the creek. (So if anybody wants a Ford, just go an pick it up!).

Most things in my life I just do without really knowing why until after I've done them - but this experience I could have done without. I'm glad me and Jeff made it out alive. Feels like a second chance somehow...

Portland.
I don't really remember that much of this (what seems to be nice place) city cause we were still a bit taken by the whole experience the day before.

San Francisco.
We got our strength back on Highway 1 from Portland down to SF. It's stupid even trying to describe how nice that ride was. I was so happy just reaching the west coast, being alive and feeling the water! I'll upload some picture and clips soon on myspace instead - that will give you guys a better idea of how nice it was. I had a nice show in SF and I also had a chance to catch up with a friend that I haven't seen in years.

Bakersfield was cool and the tea-bar I played at was a cool place with great personal. Thanks for the tea - love the special green tea blend!

Moving down to LA, and the last show on a six month long tour, felt so sad and a feeling of emptiness came crawling over me. The thing about touring is that you're never alone - but always lonely - and that is something that you get use to so when it's over you don't know how to act or go about the "normal life" anymore. I hate that feeling, I don't wanna stop... Stopping equals time for reflection, and that is not something I'm very good at. I'm not here to stop - Im here, leaning forward read to go - now!

Oh, well...

Once in LA I probably had my best solo show on the entire tour in a packed Hotel Cafe. Even if the last chord is struck for now, it still resonates in my head...

I just also wanna thank you all (fans, label people, haters and lovers) for showing up at my shows, supporting me and giving me memories for life.

I can never thank you enough - without you I'm nothing.

So for now - the beach awaits me!

Your; friend, anti-hero and lover.

DC US Tour Diary - Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Chicago!
2006-11-02

Yes, we're still going strong on the east coast working our way west towards the great lakes.

The Middletown trip was over the top in Hillbilly factor but once in Cleveland the blue-collar vibe got us back on the ground. The Rockstar club was great and the staff was so nice and generous. A bit too generous maybe-- especially with the 20 drink tickets for me and Jeff to share. We did what we had to do.

In Pittsburgh we ended up on the south side of town which got to be the cool side cause Pittsburgh took both me and Jeff by surprise. The area's got a Brooklyn kind of feeling to it and "the Carson strip" also hosted the Club Cafe' where I played later on that night. I really enjoyed the Club Cafe show and hope to one day be able to go back there. Also-- not to forget-- I had my best soup so far on the trip in Pittsburgh. The Italian wedding soup! Wow! Lovely. I rank this as the No. 1 soup-spot and then the Broccoli & Chedder from Panera close behind.

Leaving Pittsburgh for Chicago, and the longest trip so far on the tour, we prepared with new batteries in the camera and new CDs. The album that got us through the 10 hour trip has got to be the latest release by Death Cab for Cutie, "Plans." That album just captured the mood and the things we saw passing by going through "no-mans-land." The sunset we saw while passing through Cleveland and Toledo was something out of the ordinary. It was a mash of a peach foundation meeting light blue sky...incredible. I'll never forget that!

After hours of night time driving, Chicago, the Windy City, had some surprises up its sleeve. Apart from the never-ending construction work and crazy drivers it was Halloween night that welcomed us. Our hotel is located on the wild north side so we didn't waste time. We found an irish pub with the first ever anti-superman-hero-bartender that entertained us all through the small hours. Check out the man!

Tonight I'm gonna play my first ever show in Chicago at The Hideout. I'm sure that this is gonna be a kick ass experience and I hope the superman-bartender shows up!

More soon from me and Jeff!

DC US Tour Diary - NYC, Boston, Philly and shithole
2006-10-29

Oh yes, Oh yes - The US tour is on!
After a super show in NYC at Joe's Pub, great crowed and sweet jazzy venue we hit Boston the day before yesterday and Philly tonight. I have to say that Boston was so nice that I actually could see myself live there at one point in my life. I'm not usually a fall-kind-a-guy but the colors and the atmosphere was so incredible that I think I'm in love.
Also a big thumbs up to all people that spent 2 hours in a car from Main to see me. What can I say? - That is dedication I'll never forget! Thanks!

After the Philadelphia show tonight we (me and Jeff from Tommy Boy) had to leave cause we have a long ass drive all the way to Cleveland tomorrow. Right now we just stopped in the middle if nowhere, Middletown, at a Best Western shithole. (Only one hair found in my bed and one in Jeff's...haha!) Even if we're in the stciks there sure is action out here. A part from hearing Poison on the radio (god bless Poison) we just missed a police car chase on the highway since parts of it was closed!

I'm sure there's gonna be more hillbilly action tomorrow! But now - got to get to bed.
Don't forget folk - turn back your clock tonight!

Over and out!
DC & Jeff
